Building Technology Models

The first part of this module involved re-imagining an interesting facade of our choice as a precast-concrete facade, and then building it as a 3D model, as an exercise in detailing and model-making. The building I chose to study was the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg, Germany. I chose a specific portion of the facade which begins at the lobby of the new extension and rises two storeys to show the eccentric openings that continue throughout the facade, and to explore the detailing involved in creating an overhang.

The second part of this module was to mix, pour and set a real concrete panel, experimenting with the formwork, colours and textures. This again was to develop our understanding of concrete and its potential uses. My formwork was inspired by a building in France by D’HOUNDT + BAJART Architects & Associates, which has an intricate decorative floral design. However I chose to add a red pigment to my mix to experiment with the final colour of my panel.
