Food For Talk - A Gastronomic Village
The brief for this project was to create a new gastronomic experience using 8 temporary timber hubs which could be dismantled and reassembled in a new location without disrupting the environment. The aim was to use composition and spatial planning to create a unique food-related event of your choice, following the theme set by the 2015 Milan Expo. The ambition of my project was to create an innovative dining experience that encourages social behaviour, as a reaction to the rise of the fast food restaurants and takeaways which discourage it.

To achieve this goal a Gastronomic Village of 8 hubs would be set up in Seaton Park, Aberdeen to which people can sign up to either cater, or be catered to. Those with a passion for cooking can opt to be the chef for the night whilst those that seek a fresh dining experience can choose to be catered to, either individually or in a group. Through this process not only will people experience foods and recipes they may not have usually tasted, but they will form bonds and friendships which otherwise would not have been attained, returning the dining experience back to its social roots.

The journey begins with a reception where the caterers and catered first meet. Following this, the path continues onto two optional educational hubs, one featuring a cookbook library, another a professional chef giving demonstrations. Both hubs lead into two retail hubs, featuring a large marketplace where the cooks may choose their ingredients. Next, the path leads to the two kitchen/dining hubs; one for couples, another for larger groups. Here the visitors cook, eat and enjoy their evening together. The final hub contains the servicing facilities, as well as an open bar which faces onto an open terrace, where the groups may relax together after their meal and enjoy a drink.
