Middlefield Regeneration - Urban Regeneration Group Work
The Middlefield area of Aberdeen is about to see some major changes due to the planned construction of a new bypass through its centre. This has presented an opportunity to regenerate the currently run-down area and provide new amenities to connect the community. Our design was inspired by the notion of providing something entertaining, quirky and engaging for the community which would promote interaction and use.

Our proposal therefore consisted of the construction of 4 intriguing activity spaces; a skatepark, a colourful LED playground, a mogul football field, and a peaceful park and water feature that connects to the reservoir, each space joined by a skateboard friendly path. The quirks of each space are intended to capture people’s curiosity and become enjoyable spaces for both users and spectators alike, catering to people of all ages and particularly suited to the area’s key demographic: families. The spaces are also connected by a long weaving perforated brick wall, providing a physical barrier against the bypass and the noise it brings.
